Bottom Line Characteristics of a Spectacular Team

Teams

The Team

From day one, the founding team is the most important factor for startup success. Too often, companies begin with a team of part-timers. Those who may commit if everything works out. Otherwise, they will remain in their cubicle at a big-name company.

Commitment

The founding team must be committed beyond everything else in their lives. They need to have no plan B. Working part-time jobs to pay bills is fine, but remaining in a high-paying career is a no-go.

Competency

Each member of the founding team must be competent in their role. We do not expect the CEO to be Satya Nadella, but we want to see a founding CEO who knows how to sell. Likewise, the CTO must be a strong engineer who can quickly deliver and manage critical projects.

Vision and Communication

We want to see founding teams that communicate well, share a vision, and focus on one goal at a time. Too often, each team member has their own vision of what the company should be. This is a warning sign.

Ego and Honesty

The first rule for massive success is not caring what other people think. This is the main factor that separates the wealthy from the middle class. Part of that is honesty. Do not be afraid to tell the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Conclusion

Successful teams all look different, but they share similar characteristics. The driving factor is their ability to work together toward a common objective without personal desires getting in the way. This means no ego and total commitment.

Hope this helps,

Todd Moses (CEO)
